The Student Certification Branch works in partnership with many stakeholders, including Boards of Education, Independent School Authorities, Offshore Schools, the Yukon Department of Education, post-secondary institutions and other education sector organizations in supporting student transitions to post-secondary education, training programs and/or workforce. The Student Certification Branch is responsible for the administration of the graduation program, administration of and marking of provincial graduation assessments and examinations, administration of the Provincial Scholarship Award, the GED Program and implementation and administration of the BC Training and Education Savings Program.  In addition, the Branch is responsible for data collection; reporting provincial graduation assessment and examinations results; certifying BC secondary school graduates and issuing transcripts.

As the Information Officer, you will provide information services to those who are seeking information and advice on the graduation program, provincial assessment /examination administration policies and procedures to school personnel, post-secondary institutions, students and other interested parties. This position assists the public in providing information on all facets of the BC Provincial Graduation Programs, including graduation requirements, administration of the provincial assessment and examination  program, data collection, and distribution of assessment, examination and transcript data.

You are adept at addressing and defusing difficult situations with clients and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  You have the ability to identify and assess problems and situations, and to reference, interpret and apply a variety of policies, rules, and guidelines to determine appropriate course of action.

  • Some post-secondary education or training in a related discipline and a minimum of four (4) years working in an office environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience is required in all the following:
    • Experience in providing information and services to the public.
    • Experience analyzing complex information to determine solutions.
    • Experience dealing with highly confidential and sensitive issues.
    • Experience working in a team that oversees a complex administrative program with multiple priorities and timelines.
    • Experience in word process and other computer applications such as spreadsheets and databases.
