The primary function of the District is to ensure the safe and efficient movement of goods, services and people in a given geographic area.  The District administers the road and bridge maintenance contracts, provincially totalling approximately $320 million annually, portions of the rehabilitation program, development approvals and support for the provincial capital program.

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the position administers the bridge maintenance program for an assigned portion of the Rocky Mountain District to ensure safety and convenience of the motoring public.  The Area Manager, Bridges oversees and monitors the bridge maintenance program to ensure the work carried out by Maintenance Contractor in Service Area 12 is in accordance with the contractual agreement; and performs other related duties as required including supervising junior area supervisors and technical crews; may act for Operations Manager during absences.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

EDUCATIONAL AND/OR OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION

  • BCIT (or another Technical Institution) Certification as a Bridge Inspector; OR,
  • Professional Engineer and one year of *related experience; OR,
  • Diploma from a recognized Institute of Technology (e.g. Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC) in civil engineering, structural engineering or related field of study and three years of *related experience; OR,
  • Secondary School graduation (or GED) and a minimum of six years of *related experience;
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing

Preference may be given to:

  • Applicants who possess the BCIT (or another Technical Institution) Certification as a Bridge Inspector
  • Applicants with experience with the Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure

EXPERIENCE AND/OR ACHIEVEMENTS

* Related experience is any experience associated with bridge structural technology and the manufacture, erection or maintenance of bridge components, or equivalent experience. Contract, asset, area, or people management experience may be also considered.
