The starting salary for this position is expected to be $80,000 annually.

The Employment Standards Branch is responsible for ensuring awareness of and compliance with all requirements of the Employment Standards Act (the Act) and Regulation and for providing front-line services to employers and employees in carrying out these legislative provisions. This involves interpreting, administering and enforcing the Act and Regulation to determine whether employees are owed wages by their employers. The Branch also provides support to the Labour Relations Board.
Industrial Relations Officers (IROs) serve as senior officers in the Employment Standards Branch. As delegates of the Director of Employment Standards, IROs investigate, mediate or adjudicate complaints made by employees against their employers regarding alleged contraventions of the Act. IROs also initiate investigations or conduct audits on behalf of the Director of Employment Standards. IROs enforce the Act and write decisions consistent with legal requirements within the framework of administrative fairness and natural justice. IROs are skilled communicators who are responsible for improving awareness and knowledge of employment standards in the Province. In addition, IROs conduct representation votes for the Labour Relations Board.
The nature of the work is diverse and complex. IROs manage a high volume and demanding caseload that requires critical thinking, sound analysis, expeditious decision-making, excellent oral communication and writing skills and the ability to balance competing priorities between parties who may be upset or emotional. In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
- A university degree.
- Experience interpreting and applying legislation, contracts, and/or policies.
- Experience writing persuasive arguments or decisions.
- Experience composing analytical reports, policies or procedures.
- Experience interviewing parties, obtaining and disclosing information, keeping notes and preparing correspondence.
- Experience resolving disputes or complex issues between opposing parties.
