The Commercial Vehicle Safety & Enforcement (CVSE) contributes to public safety by enforcing laws and regulations related to commercial vehicle safety and vehicle equipment standards in British Columbia, including provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act, the Commercial Transport Act, the Transportation Act, the Motor Fuel Tax Act, the Passenger Transportation Act and the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act. CVSE staff promote road safety through the implementation and management of the National Safety Code, Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program, Private Vehicle Inspection Program, Commercial Transport Program, Transport of Dangerous Goods Program, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Program and by representing CVSE on road safety bodies to coordinate and harmonize commercial transport and vehicle equipment and safety standards. This 24 hour a day, 7 days a week operation requires frequent evening and weekend work.

The South Coast Regional Manager, CVSE, is responsible for planning, directing, and managing the Region’s CVSE resources and programs in both Districts (Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island) and for overseeing the enforcement of 7 Acts and Regulations through the issuance of Permits, Violation Tickets, Notice and Orders, Appearance Notices and Vehicle Impoundments. The position provides leadership and management to a diverse group of CVSE staff, located in numerous communities, in a large geographic area. The position acts as focal point regarding show cause hearings resulting from poor carrier performance, unsatisfactory audits results and non-compliance issues. In addition, the position is responsible for providing input into the development of provincial enforcement policies, standards, procedures and legislation. The position may be required to Chair or participate on provincial committees and initiatives.  This role also provides advice, interpretation and direction to industry officials, elected officials, other enforcement agencies and the general public with regards to all CVSE policies, programs and legislation.

Coquitlam is located in the Lower Mainland 10-15 km from downtown Vancouver. Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Related Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma such as in engineering or management and 7 years current experience in the Commercial Transport Industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Preferable to have Compliance and enforcement training courses such as the Justice Institute of BC Investigation and Enforcement Skills Certificate;
  • Experience in business writing and communication;
  • Demonstrated experience organizing and managing complex concurrent initiatives;
  • Administration experience including supervising staff;
  • Experience delivering and conducting presentations and seminars.
  • Airbrake endorsement, certificate or training;
  • CVSA certificate or training;
  • Dangerous Goods certificate or training;
  • Provincial Peace Officer status;
  • Valid BC Driver’s licence with no more than 9 points within the previous 5 year period;
  • Willing and able to travel based on operational requirements.
