The Pharmaceutical Services Division (PSD) leads, innovates and manages the Province’s drug programs to improve health outcomes. It is responsible for the overall coordination, decision making, and performance of the BC PharmaCare program. PharmaCare Benefits provides Drug Program management of the Ministry of Health’s PharmaCare program, including determining which drugs, devices and supplies are funded and adjudicating patient-specific drug funding requests through Special Authority. The branch is also responsible for leading the provincial management of drug shortages and working with Health Authorities and other provincial drug programs on various drug management issues.
The Director, Formulary Management, is the senior clinician and expert in Formulary Management. In the Director role, you lead the Ministry’s drug review process, including therapeutic reviews, through the national Common Drug Review (CDR) and provincial Drug Benefit Council (DBC) processes and various national collaborations to determine which drugs are funded on the BC PharmaCare formulary. As the, Director, Formulary Management, you ensure that the formulary is appropriate, contemporary, evidence-informed, cost-effective, and affordable to improve health outcomes for British Columbians. This includes participating on behalf of BC in the national drug review and negotiation processes and leading the provincial operations of BC’s drug review process.

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
- Clinical degree (e.g., Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy – B.Sc. (Pharm.) plus five years’ related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference may be given to applicants with an Advanced Degree in Pharmacy or related field.
- Applicants must be eligible to be licensed to practice pharmacy in British Columbia.
- Experience on complex projects that are large in scale and/or involve divergent stakeholder issues;
- Progressive experience in a management capacity;
- Demonstrated experience in leading teams or in supervising employees, including developing and evaluating performance, setting goals, coaching, team-building and mentoring team members;
- Experience preparing high level reports and decision papers.
- Preference may be given to applicants with government experience.
