Ministry of Attorney General – Family Justice Services Division (FJSD) provides programs and services that deliver the timely and just resolution of family disputes within a comprehensive family justice system. Through community-based Justice Access Centres and Family Justice Centres, FJSD provides various programs and services, including dispute resolution, Parenting After Separation, and court-ordered assessments and reports by the Family Justice Report Service.

The Nanaimo Justice Access Centre provides people with information, assessment, advice, referral, mediation, and other services they require to help solve their family and civil legal problems. For more information about Justice Access Centres, click here.

The Justice Access Centre Interviewer (JI) provides intake, information, referral, and other related services to clients wishing to access the justice system and related services. The JI is the frontline contact responsible for limited case management of clients seeking assistance from the justice system and attending the Justice Access Centre (JAC).

The JI elicits, verifies and ascertains information from clients at the point of initial contact. On the basis of this information, the JI makes referrals to various services within the JAC as well as the community.

In addition, the JI assists clients who are involved in family and civil (non-family) actions in Provincial Court, Supreme Court and administrative tribunals to access self help and information services.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

Mandatory Qualifications

  • A recognized undergraduate degree.
  • A minimum of one year recent related work or volunteer experience in a human service field (e.g., counselling, community service agencies, dispute resolution, court services, legal services, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications – Ideally, the candidate will have one or more of the following:

  • Two or more years’ recent experience working with families in a human service field.
  • Family Justice Service in British Columbia – FAMJ-1000 (formerly FAM190 or CORR606).
  • Family Violence: Impact on Separation and Divorce – FAMJ-1002 (formerly FAM191 or CORR605).
