Employment Opportunity – General Manager
Permanent Full Time / 35 hrs. week / Based in Victoria, BC

The BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres (BCAAFC) is seeking a highly qualified individual to manage and oversee the internal operations of the BCAAFC provincial office. Reporting to the Executive Director, the General Manager will lead the BCAAFC’s management and staff team and provide general oversight to ensure the operations of the BCAAFC are managed effectively, efficiently and with a high degree of accountability. This position works within a team environment that engages staff, Board of Directors and external stakeholders in the implementation of strategic priorities, initiatives, and projects as established by the Executive Director and governors of the BCAAFC.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and provide direction, support, and mentorship to managers and staff
  • Lead and support the human resource development;
  • Lead in implementing the goals and objectives of the strategic plan;
  • Negotiate and review agreements, contracts and proposals for funders and external stakeholders;
  • Maintain the BCAAFC’s records and filing of societal documents and reports as per the BC Societies Act;
  • Represent the BCAAFC through participation on internal and external committees as required;
  • Prepare reports, briefs, presentations and other documents;
  • Oversee the development and distribution of the Annual Report;
  • Oversee the management of the BCAAFC’s office building;
  • Oversee procurement

Knowledge and Abilities

  1. Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
  2. Proven ability to lead, develop, and manage a team;
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work and manage in a positive team environment;
  4. Comprehensive knowledge of the BC Societies Act;
  5. Comprehensive knowledge of employment standards;
  6. Comprehensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and other software;
  7. Knowledge and understanding of BCAAFC’s mandate, organizational structure and the Friendship Centre Movement
  8. Self-motivated, inspiring, and action oriented

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience working in a large and complex organization
  • Master’s degree in relevant field (i.e. business or public administration, leadership, etc.)
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and/or urban Aboriginal service organizations
  • Must be able to provide a current criminal record check
