A hands-on role helping children and youth in your community
An integral member of a multi-disciplinary Community Mental Health Team and in coordination with other community agencies and professionals, you provide a range of mental health services to children, youth and their families, when the child or youth is suffering from serious emotional, psychological, behavioural or psychiatric illness.
As an Outreach Clinician, CYMH, you provide direct clinical services such as intake, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and crisis intervention for children, youth and their families. Consulting with community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other ministry programs, you understand the importance of being involved in community education, development, coordination and prevention/early intervention programs. You build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders in the community to ensure that conflicts are resolved and appropriate outcomes are achieved.

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
Master’s Degree in Social Work (Clinical Specialization) or equivalent training/education or a Master’s Degree in Child and Youth Care; MA (Clinical Psychology/Educational Counselling having completed a Practicum in Child and Youth Counselling; OR a comparable Graduate Degree at Master’s level ie: M.ED (Counselling), MFT (Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy) or comparable graduate degree at Master’s level.
Note: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you must confirm that it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services. Confirmation for equivalency for your degree is required for you to be considered. Please indicate in your resume (cut and paste a copy of the approval. If in progress proof must be provided on or by the closing date of the competition). Note: It is recommended that successful Social Work candidates seek and obtain clinical registration with the BC College of Social Workers (BCCSW) within 6 months of having completed the required 3000 hours of supervised clinical practice.
Minimum two (2) years Clinical experience working in child and youth mental services, with responsibility for providing a wide range of Community based Mental Health services.
Preference may be given to applicants who have the following:
Two (2) years of post-Master’s degree experience working in Child and Youth Mental Health services, with responsibility for providing a wide range of Community based Mental Health services.
One or more years of recent experience providing services to individuals experiencing problematic substance use and mental health challenges.
Experience in Early Childhood Mental Health.
A minimum of one (1) year experience with Family Counselling.
Experience working with Indigenous Communities in British Columbia.
Applicants who have Indigenous Heritage (First Nations, Metis, Inuit) and who also meet the required Education and Experience statements.
Students and other applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered but at a lower classification. If hired, you would be under-implemented at the Social Program Officer 21 classification with an employee development plan in place until the qualifications for Social Program Officer (CYMH) 25 are fully met. Being under-implemented may include not yet having your Degree or not having 2 years Clinical experience working with Children, Youth and their families with responsibility for providing a wide range of Community based Mental Health services.
