The Mining Health, Safety and Enforcement Division (MHSED) is responsible for the health and safety, compliance management, audits and enforcement for the mineral exploration and mining sector in B.C. The Compliance Audits and Enforcement (CAE) Branch was created in 2016 and is an evolving team. This branch is responsible for delivery of the objectives defined by the Mining C&E Strategic and annual operational plans, administration of the administrative monetary penalties program, inspectorate training, compliance business intelligence, delivery of the mines audit program, indigenous engagement in compliance and mine investigations.
The Senior Mechanical Auditor may be located in any of the five regional offices and reports directly to the Manager, External Mine Audits. The five regional offices include Victoria, Prince George, Kamloops, Cranbrook and Smithers.
The Senior Mechanical Auditor is the audit team professional for mine mechanical safety and is responsible for the audit of mechanical safety related to equipment, systems and processes, and the implementation of controls required to mitigate risks to worker health and safety. This position is responsible for conducting detailed assessments of B.C. mines to determine overall compliance, including issuing orders to address hazards or contraventions that pose an immediate threat to human health and safety or the environment. Informed by the compliance findings, this position is also responsible for developing comprehensive audit reports with practical recommendations to senior decision makers for improved regulatory effectiveness and continuous improvement. This position acts under the authority of the Mines Act.

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
- Relevant degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Mining, Civil, Materials Science or equivalent).
- Mining-related experience, with emphasis on heavy material handling systems and mobile equipment.
- Experience interpreting and analyzing data related to mine safety management and identifying actions required to resolve problems.
- Experience in mine safety hazard management related to mechanical systems at mines.
