Join the BC Parks Team as a summer Student Ranger Crew Member

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy / BC Parks has created the 2019 BC Parks Student Ranger Program to promote outdoor youth employment opportunities across the province.

For the 2019 season, the BC Parks Student Ranger Program will see 48 students employed in BC Parks across the province from May to August.  Eligible candidates for the 2019 season are Canadian Residents between the ages of 18 and 30, currently enrolled in full-time studies and who intend to return to full-time studies in the next academic year.  BC Parks encourages students from Indigenous backgrounds to apply for these positions.

Twelve crews will be recruited, hired and employed by BC Parks across five BC Parks Regions.  Locations for crews during the 2019 season include:  Victoria (Goldstream Provincial Park Office), Black Creek (Miracle Beach Provincial Park Office), North Vancouver (Mt. Seymour Provincial Park Office), Manning Provincial Park Office, Cranbrook, Sechelt (Porpoise Bay Provincial Park Office), Kamloops, Williams Lake, Bella Coola, Terrace, Fort St John and Prince George.  Each crew will consist of 1 Crew Lead and 3 Crew Members.  Each regional crew will work within their respective region on various BC Parks related projects.  Crew Lead positions begin May 13, 2019 and run until August 30, 2019.  Crew Member positions begin May 26, 2019 and run until August 30, 2019.  All successful applicants will be expected to attend a Program Training event near Cultus Lake from May 26-May 31, 2019. Details on this training will be provided at the offer of employment.

2018 Student Ranger Crew Members will not be eligible for 2019 Student Ranger Crew Member positions and are encouraged to apply on 2019 Student Ranger Crew Lead positions.

What to expect:

Crew Leads and Crew Members can expect to be out in the field nearly all working days, participating in various projects. Scheduled days and hours of work will very across regional offices, with the expectation that Crews will work weekends. Applicants should expect to camp on numerous occasions during the work time in the front and back-country and to perform physically challenging work. More information on work schedules, hours of work and specific projects will be provided to applicants at the interview stage of this competition.

Manning Park is the only 2019 Student Ranger location that will provide full accommodation for their crew.

  • BC Parks has the following criteria for those interested in becoming Student Ranger Crew Member for the 2019 season:
  • Registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year with the intention of returning to full-time studies in the next academic year [in or outside of Canada];
  • Between 18 – 30 years of age;
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada;
  • Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;
  • Must attend a Program Training event near Cultus Lake from May 26-May 31, 2019. Details on this training will be provided at the offer of employment;
  • Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act [CRRA] check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry.
