Jury selection is expected to continue today in Halifax for the high-profile murder trial of a Dalhousie University medical student.

William Sandeson has been charged with first-degree murder in the 2015 death of Taylor Samson, a 22-year-old Dalhousie physics student.

Samson’s body has yet to be found _ and police haven’t said how or why they believe Samson was killed.

Two courtrooms at the Halifax Law Courts were jammed yesterday with hundreds of prospective jurors _ and six were selected for jury duty.

(NS-Woman-Found-Dead)

Police in Cape Breton say they remain suspicious about the circumstances surrounding the death of a local woman.

Her body was found yesterday inside a rural home in Gardiner Mines.

Cape Breton Regional Police say they arrested a man after the woman’s body was found.

They say the victim and suspect were known to each other _ though no names were released.

(NL-Hebron-Project)

A decade after it was first announced, the Hebron offshore oil project in Newfoundland has reached a major milestone.

A ceremony held yesterday marked the completion of the massive production platform.

The construction project in Bull Arm cost 14-billion dollars _ almost three times the original estimate.

Next month, the gravity-based structure will be towed to the oilfield about 350 kilometres southeast of St. John’s.

The sentencing of a Halifax-area high school teacher found guilty of invitation to sexual touching has been delayed.

Sarah Allt Harnish must first take part in a sexual deviancy assessment.

As well, her lawyer has persuaded the presiding judge to wait for the decision in another teacher’s appeal in a similar case.

Harnish was a teacher at Five Bridges Junior High in Hubley when she was charged in 2016.

(NS-Paper-Trade-Dispute)

A trade dispute over glossy paper has turned a new page.

A Canada-U.S. review panel has unanimously ordered the U-S Department of Commerce to reconsider duties it imposed on Canadian mills that produce the paper _ including a mill in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia.

The decision came after Port Hawkesbury Paper launched an appeal of a 20 per cent countervailing duty levied by the United States.

The Nova Scotia government says it’s encouraged by the ruling.

Some First Nations leaders in New Brunswick are working to banish drug dealers from their communities.

The move follows the fatal overdose of a 35-year-old woman.

An addictions counsellor in northeastern New Brunswick says the woman may have taken the powerful opioid fentanyl.

Leo Bartibogue says the local band council has suggested following the lead of other First Nations that are suspending band services and benefits for anyone charged with trafficking drugs.
