VANCOUVER – The last of six workshops has wrapped up aimed at sharing the experiences of drug users and first responders with a greater Vancouver audience.

The event, titled “How to Save a Life: Front Line Stories,” featured live storytelling by people closely linked to the city’s Downtown Eastside.

Jackie Wong helped facilitate the initiative and says it’s important these stories are shared outside of the neighbourhood most closely associated with the opioid epidemic.

Wong says it’s important residents across the entire city are aware of how acute the overdose crisis remains and that no neighbourhood is immune.

The workshops also included a training session where attendees were taught how to administer the overdose-reversing drug naloxone.

The program was organized by the Overdose Prevention Society and by Megaphone Magazine, a monthly publication sold by homeless and low-income vendors.
