Vancouver to give two public plazas indigenous names – The Province

A pair of public plazas in Vancouver will receive with new Indigenous names during a ceremony Monday morning.

The new names for the Vancouver Art Gallery north plaza and the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza will be announced during a formal naming ceremony at 10 a.m. at the gallery’s recently renovated north plaza.

Representatives from the city of Vancouver and the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nations, along with B.C. Minister of Citizens’ Services Jinny Sims are scheduled to attend.

The ceremony will be led by Ray Harris, a member of the Stz’uminus First Nation and former elected chief.
