Honouring Indigenous Innovation: Troy MacBeth Abromaitis Receives Indigenous Technologist Award

by ahnationtalk on September 29, 202517 Views

“This award doesn’t just acknowledge my path—it honours the strength of our people, the spirit of our land, and the quiet courage it takes to begin again.” ~ Troy MacBeth Abromaitis

At the heart of every community story lies resilience — and sometimes, the spark of innovation that brings renewal. That spirit was at the centre of the inaugural Amplify Awards, on May 27, 2025, where we recognized leaders using technology to strengthen communities, protect lands, and inspire futures.

One of the night’s highest honours, the Indigenous Technologist Award, was presented to Troy MacBeth Abromaitis, a proud member of the Lytton First Nation and survivor of the Sixties Scoop.

Troy has transformed personal healing into a powerful force for collective resurgence. With more than 20 years of experience in real estate development, governance, and strategic planning, he has shaped future-forward, culturally grounded projects across BC.

Following the devastating 2021 wildfires, Troy returned to his community. He became a driving force in recovery efforts in his role with the Lytton First Nation Economic Development Corporation. By applying tools like GIS and LiDAR mapping, Troy has helped re-envision sacred lands, design resilient infrastructure, and ensure innovation supports renewal — not just rebuilding.

“This award doesn’t just acknowledge my path—it honours the strength of our people, the spirit of our land, and the quiet courage it takes to begin again.” Troy shared.

The Amplify Awards were created to celebrate stories like Troy’s — proof that when guided by Indigenous leadership, technology becomes more than innovation. It becomes a tool for self-determination, sovereignty, and belonging.
