JOB OVERVIEW: Administrative Assistant, Indigenous Leadership, Office of Indigenous Leadership
The Administrative Assistant provides administrative support to the AVP, Indigenous Leadership, Innovation and Partnerships and their portfolio. The Administrative Assistant works independently and exercises initiative, judgment, and strong organizational skills to complete their work. The incumbent analyzes interprets and communicates effectively on issues of a complex, confidential, and strategic nature, including the application and variance of university policy. This position performs a variety of administrative support services that contribute to the efficient and professional operations of the Office of Indigenous Leadership, working closely with the Office of the Vice President, Students, other senior administrators, students, the student association, other members of the KPU community, and external partners.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Completion of some post-secondary education
- Previous clerical/administrative experience
QUALIFICATIONS
- S elf-identify as Indigenous, including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples of Canada and can demonstrate thorough lived experience the knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions and values.
- Ability to type 50 wpm with a high degree of accuracy.
- Experience with databases
- Ability to effectively handle interpersonal and intercultural interactions at all levels and handle highly-sensitive interpersonal situations
- Ability to identify the types of information that must be kept confidential and maintain that confidentiality.
- Ability to independently identify appropriate applications of a wide variety of complex written policies and procedures in circumstances not clearly described in available guidelines.
- Ability to apply judgment, discretion and initiative in performing complex administrative support work in areas related to government and Indigenous relations.
- Ability to independently initiate, compose and draft clear and concise final form memoranda and correspondence requiring selection of materials from a variety of sources.
- Working knowledge of computers, copiers, printers, and software, such as internet browsers, email, and electronic scheduling tools.
- Experience using Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word.
- Experience and ability in accurately reporting meeting minutes.
- Organizational and time-management skills and attention to detail with a proven ability to juggle and prioritize tasks and work to deadlines.
- Ability to take initiative both independently and as a team player.
