BC Timber Sales is a semi-autonomous program within the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations with financial and operational independence. BC Timber Sales has an integral role in supporting the Forest Sector Strategy in the BC Jobs Plan. It also supports the Ministry’s Four Key Pillars, its Goal of “Productive, thriving natural resource sector and resilient communities”, and its Objective of “Economic benefits of natural resource development are optimized.”

BC Timber Sales provides these benefits by planning, developing, and selling through auction, a substantial and representative portion of the Province’s annual available timber volume.

As a Forest Technologist, you will perform a variety of technical and operational duties to support the planning, engineering and reforestation activities of the Timber Sales Office. Applying your knowledge of technical forestry management and field operations, you will estimate and compile resource needs, cost requirements, and conduct resource assessments. An integral part of a high-functioning, multidisciplinary field team, you will perform various activities required to develop Timber Sales Licenses and support Field Team operations. In this multifaceted role, you will be actively engaged in field activities, make independent decisions and play an important role in the community. This position can require physically demanding field work (several days per week) with the potential for adverse weather conditions. The job can also require that you work alone in semi-isolated areas.

Qualifications for this role include:

⦁    Graduation from an approved technical institute with a diploma or a degree in resource or forestry management and two years of experience in operational field forestry activities (such as forest tenure field development, engineering, silviculture or harvest operations/C and E) or, an equivalent combination of education or experience such as, five or more years of experience in forestry activities;
⦁    Applicants must be Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Forest Technologist (RFT) with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP) or equivalent.
⦁    Preference may be given to those applicants who have experience in more than one field of forestry;
⦁     Preference may be given to applicants who can demonstrate experience and/or training in contract monitoring and administration; and,
⦁    All positions require a valid B.C. Driver’s License.
