In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education, experience and professional designation requirement as outlined below:

  • Masters degree in the resource management field, and two years of related experience (gained within the last five years) in Natural Resource Management or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a resource management field, and three years of related experience (gained within the last five years) in Natural Resource Management AND
  • Registered, or immediately eligible (within 6 months) for registration as a professional, with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area (i.e. BC Institute of Agrologists, Association of BC Forest Professionals, Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC, Association of BC Land Surveyors).
    • (Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a professional in another Canadian jurisdiction or another BC professional association referred to above, and able to transfer that membership to a BC professional association within 6 months of employment. It is the responsibility of the applicant to have their qualifications reviewed by the appropriate body to ensure they have the necessary requirements for registration.)

EXPERIENCE IN NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT MUST INCLUDE:

  • Experience making or supporting natural resource management recommendations and/or decisions involving multidisciplinary issues.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders, often with opposing views, and resolving conflict.
  • Experience in preparation of briefing and presentation materials, demonstrating excellent oral and written communication skills.

PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN TO APPLICANTS:

  • Who have experience supervising, leading, coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Who have experience with Crown Land Authorizations and the Land Act.
  • Who have experience with land title conveyancing, interpreting land surveys, real estate appraisal and administration of real estate interests.
  • Who have experience in leading and successfully completing First Nations consultation/engagement, including consultation/engagement on proposals which received opposition by First Nations.
  • Who have experience evaluating natural resource applications and reviewing proposals.
  • Who have knowledge of BC Laws governing natural resource management.

PROVISOS / WILLINGNESS STATEMENTS:

  • Must have and maintain a valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s licence.
  • Must meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
  • May be required to operate a variety of equipment.
  • Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Please include your registration number for your specialty area within your application as you must be registered or immediately eligible for registration as a fully licensed professional with one of the following associations: Association of BC Forest Professionals, BC Institute of Agrologists, or Engineers and Geoscientists BC (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia). If you are not yet registered with any of these Professional Associations, please explain in your cover letter how you are immediately eligible for registration (i.e. currently a fully licensed registered professional member in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction and can immediately transfer to the ABCFP, the BCIA or the Engineers and Geoscientists BC). ***If you do not meet this qualification please apply to the Scientific Technical Officer opportunity through Requisition 56668
