Annual Salary: $59,449.17 – $67,894.79
Apply your knowledge and expertise of highway construction to enhance BC roadways
The infrastructure and rebuilding of BC highways and roadways is a constant developing task. The Provincial Field Services Unit is the delivery component of the Ministry’s annual highway construction and rehabilitation programs and is responsible for direct field administration of grading, paving and sealcoat works throughout the Province, covering both contracted and day labour projects.
The Ministry Representative reports directly to a Manager, Field Services and heads a technical staff consisting of two to three field services crew members in the field services works quality management process. The Ministry Representative is accountable for quality management and fiscal management; responsible for administering safety requirements and proactive safety management; directs day labour; functions as the technical representative; manages assets and resources; and develops and maintains relationships.
Excellent communication and conflict management skills combined with comprehensive knowledge of related Ministry policies and procedures ensure your sound guidance and direction in overseeing the work of contractors and in the supervision and execution of the construction of highways and related infrastructure using day labour. Highly motivated and results oriented, you have the initiative and experience this high profile, fast-paced role requires.
Qualifications for this role include:
⦁ Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or related engineering degree plus nine (9) years related experience OR Grade12 plus eleven (11) years directly related experience in roadway construction.
⦁ Preference may be given to applicants with direct experience in highway construction and directly supervising people.
⦁ Related experience includes working on complex, multi-year highway construction or paving projects, developing and managing contracts, developing and implementing Quality Management systems, traffic management, and public safety, resolving contentious issues with contractors, consultants, stakeholders, and outside agencies, managing a multi-million dollar budget, including estimating, tracking, and forecasting costs, managing staff and allocating resources and directing day labour construction forces.
