Hours & Term: Up to 37.5 hours per week; until March 31st, 2024
Place of Work: Working remotely
Salary & Benefits: $25.00 – $30.00/hour based on experience and education
Languages Required: English is the working language – French and/or an Indigenous language an asset

Position Overview:

2 Spirits in Motion Society is seeking a passionate National 2Spirit Youth Project Web Manager & Editor to research, plan and edit web content for the 2Spirit Youth Website (www.2spirityouth.ca) and the 2Spirit/Indigiqueer Youth Digital Storytelling project. The National 2Spirit Youth Project Web Manager & Editor is responsible for overseeing the website as well as providing support to the 2Spirit/Indigiqueer Youth Digital Storytelling project. The 2Spirit/ Indigiqueer Youth Digital Storytelling project is a modern way for 2Spirit/Indigiqueer youth to engage in relational dialogue across the country and potentially around the world through an interactive website that shares 2Spirit youth stories from across Canada. This will also allow youth to create social media sites where they can share the stories of the 2Spirit/Indigiqueer youth writers and artists. This project also includes assisting the Youth Council with a monthly podcast on 2Spirit Youth/ Indigiqueer identities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the 2 Spirit Youth Digital Storytelling project website with the web developer.
  • Create graphic art and illustration for the 2 Spirit Youth Digital Storytelling project website and promotional materials.
  • Oversee the layout of content (images, graphics, videos and artwork) and ensure content is up to date
  • Improve illustration in collaboration for 2 Spirits in Motion with the Executive Director/Director General and Partnerships and Communications Coordinator guidance.
  • Optimize published pieces using SEO guidelines
  • Generate new ideas around industry-related topics
  • Monitor web traffic and user engagement (e.g. bounce rates)
  • Ensure that content meets 2 Spirits in Motion’s needs and follows our in-house style guide.
  • Interview industry professionals and use online sources to research topics
  • Collaborate with professionals (web designers, marketing executives, photographers, artists, freelance contributors) to improve article presentation
  • Knowledge of copyright and privacy regulations
  • Manage a busy workload according to deadlines.
  • Analyze data and analytics, and seek to increase reader engagement and retention.
  • Knowledge of SEO and industry best practices.
  • Represent the organization at launches, meetings, and press events when directed by the Executive Director/Director General.

Administration:

  • Manage the editorial calendar and ensure timely publication
  • Verify content and information for accuracy.
  • Updating the 2 Spirit Youth Digital Storytelling project website and social media pages with new content
  • Proofread and edit spelling, grammar and syntax.
  • Organize, modify and update existing content.
  • Proofreading, restructuring and editing articles by content writers
  • Maintain and organize digital files and documents related to the project and website
  • Complete research tasks as assigned by the Executive Director and Youth Council.
  • Assist in the development of documents for Youth Council meetings and for the#2Spirit/Indigiqueer Youth Digital Story project.
  • Attend meetings, training and other relevant activities for the Youth Council meetings and for the #2Spirit/Indigiqueer Youth Digital Storytelling project
  • Take notes at relevant meetings, specifically monthly youth council meetings and all meetings pertaining to the project.
  • Provide monthly reports to the Executive Director and Youth Council

Bookkeeping Support:

  • Support the Office Manager in processing expenses and expense claims #2Spirit – Indigiqueer Youth Digital Storytelling project/ website
  • Ensure appropriate maintenance of financial records for the project and website

General:

  • Respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with members, community groups and other 2SLGBTQ+ and Indigenous agencies.
  • Attend regular staff and committee meetings.
  • Maintain communication with the entire 2SiMS team on all organizational channels, including Basecamp, social media, Zoom, email and other tools as deemed necessary.
  • Consider issues of racism, anti-Black racism, sexism, misogynoir, colonialism, cissexism, transmisogyny, transmisogynoir, gender binarism, heterosexism, monosexism, amatonormativity, whorephobia, ableism, classism, sizeism, and other forms of systemic violence throughout all of our work.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Lived experience or connection to the 2SLGBTQ+ youth community.
  • Education in Youth Work, Graphic Design, Indigenous Studies and/or community development
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Administrative skills;
  • Editing skills;
  • Education and/or experience working with Adobe Suites (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign and other applications in Adobe);
  • Verbal and written communication skills;
  • Knowledge of Google Suite, including Google Docs, Google Sheets and Google Slides;
  • Knowledge of 2Spirit and 2SLGBTQ+, Indigiqueer and 2Spirit youth issues and concerns;
  • Ability to write and communicate professionally in English with French and/or an Indigenous language;
  • Ability to understand oral and written communication in English with French and/or an Indigenous language;

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Proven work experience as a web editor
  • Editing skills with a demonstrated portfolio of published work
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • Creative mind and thinks “outside the box”.
  • Bilingual, with the ability to write and communicate professionally in English with French and/or an Indigenous language;
  • Knowledge and/or lived experience of 2Spirit and Indigiqueer youth cultures and movement;
  • Knowledge of the 2 Spirit movement and networks;
  • Knowledge of the following software or tools: Basecamp, Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) Google Office Suite;
  • Experience with online media: Zoom, Google Suites, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok.
  • Understanding of anti-oppression and intersectionality.

Accountabilities:

  • Project Management timeframes;
  • Meeting notes and documentation;
  • Maintenance of administrative procedures.

Working Conditions:

  • This position will be remote with weekly check in / reporting with the Executive Director or Interim supervisor
  • This position requires flexibility, and some evenings and weekend work.
