Provincial Coordinator, Regional Community Capacity Development

3 days/week (through end of March 2022)

Organization Summary

The BC Aboriginal Child Care Society (BCACCS) is a Centre of Excellence for Indigenous early learning and child care (ELCC). BCACCS undertakes research, develops training and resources, and provides services and leadership to support Indigenous communities throughout BC to create high quality, culturally respectful, spiritually enriching community child care services that are based in the child’s culture, language, and history.

Project Background

The BCACCS Regional First Nations Community Capacity Development and ELCC Planning Project aims to improve the quality of, and accessibility to, ELCC services for First Nations children and their families in the short term while supporting longer-term capacity development for systems transformation in First Nations ELCC. As part of this project, a team of Regional Capacity Developers (RCD), Research Analyst, and Community Planner is working with BC First Nations to respectfully collect and report on data as a means of addressing service gaps, engage community members to document community ELCC assets, increase awareness of existing federal and provincial ELCC resources, and provide one-on-one mentorship and guidance to develop ELCC strategies and solutions determined and led by community members and leadership.

Position Summary

To support this project, BCACCS is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Provincial Coordinator (3 days/week). Reporting to the Executive Director, the Provincial Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the project team and collaborating with BCACCS staff, consultants, and partners to develop strategies and actions that ensure the project’s objectives and key deliverables are realized.

Principal Duties

  • Develop, implement, and maintain work plans with timelines for the project team.
  • Monitor data collection, community development, and partnership development processes.
  • Maintain budgets, expenditures, deliverables, and reporting requirements.
  • Work with communities and project team to develop strategies and actions that build on assessments of current community ELCC needs and capacity to provide ELCC services.
  • Work with project team, communities, and partners to develop a strategy that increases children’s and families’ access to special needs programs, services, and supports.
  • Work with project team, communities, and partners to develop a strategy that supports small, isolated, rural, and remote communities, and/or those with unique challenges.
  • Identify any additional governance needs, opportunities, and strategies.
  • Develop collaboration plans that foster relationships across services.
  • Share information and consult on key policy issues with the Province’s Indigenous Child Care office, First Nations Leadership Council, and regional partners.
  • Collaborate across the organization to support the development of research methodologies, strategies, and performance indicators for use in evaluating processes and outcomes.
  • Ensure that that the security and confidentiality of project data are maintained in alignment with the First Nations Principles of OCAP® (ownership, control, access, and possession) and Data Governance.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Social Science Degree in Public Policy, Public Health, Indigenous Governance, Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education or another related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar program development or project coordination role in a non-profit, Indigenous, or ELCC environment.
  • Experience working with First Nations and/or Indigenous organizations and/or the ELCC sector.
  • Experience in developing and nurturing collaborative relationships and partnerships.
  • Knowledge of the complex social, economic, and political issues impacting Indigenous families.
  • Knowledge of the ELCC sector in BC, including policies, funding, supports, and services preferred.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-directed with strong organizational, problem solving, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and online communications tools.

Compensation: $400/day
