An exciting next step in your natural resource law enforcement career

The Conservation Officer Service (COS) is the enforcement program of the Ministry of Environment. To achieve compliance with environmental regulations and standards under provincial and federal legislation, the COS is involved in outreach and education, compliance monitoring and verification, public reporting, investigations and enforcement actions.

As the Sergeant, Provincial Operations you will manage the Conservation Officer Service program at the field level to ensure that service plan and zone work plan objectives, policies, procedures, and legal requirements are met. The role supervises a staff of uniformed Conservation Officers, some in remote locations, to address regulatory and criminal non-compliance issues and to mitigate/remediate impacts upon human health/safety and the environment.

By providing professional law enforcement services, the Conservation Officer Service and its officers ensure that the public confidence in the protection and preservation of our environment and natural resources are kept. These Officers represent the Government of BC in dealing with the public and media.

Qualifications for this role include:

⦁    University degree or technical diploma in a recognized and related discipline pertaining to law or criminal justice or environmental management programs and;
⦁    Seven years of related work experience in the field of compliance and enforcement of environmental statutes, regulations, and standards conducting: inspections to monitor compliance, investigations of non-compliance, and enforcement actions (e.g. Issuance of warnings or tickets, recommendations of charges and/or administrative penalties or sanctions), and planning and/or leading compliance projects.
⦁    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
