2015 Committees Announced for Metro Vancouver Boards First Four-year Mandate
January 13, 2015
As Metro Vancouver’s Board of Directors begins its first four-year mandate, Board Chair Greg Moore has restructured the Board committees to meet the needs and aspirations of our growing and increasingly diverse region.
The provincial government extended the terms for city councils to four from three years as of the November 2014 municipal elections in BC.
In addition to Metro Vancouver’s established Committees, Chair Moore has created a:
- Performance and Procurement Committee to ensure the best value for money for all Metro Vancouver operations and services.
- Climate Action Committee to enhance important regional initiatives with respect to air quality, energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reductions.
- Regional Economy Task Force that will work collaboratively with our municipal partners, other levels of government, and the private sector to strengthen our economy and expand business and economic opportunities.
- Federal Gas Tax Task Force that will provide advice and recommendations to the Metro Vancouver Board on the use of funds available to the region through the Greater Vancouver Regional Fund, which provides funding for regional transportation investments.
“The Metro Vancouver Board of Directors is committed to maintaining and enhancing the livability of our great region as we grow in the coming years,” said Chair Moore.
“The addition of these committees and task forces to our established committee structure will, I believe, help us best represent residents throughout the region, and nurture the environment for continued economic growth and social and environmental sustainability,” he added.
In total, the Metro Vancouver Board has 10 committees, 2 sub-committees and 2 task forces whose members are Mayors, Councillors and representatives of the 21 municipalities, one electoral area, and one treaty First Nation that comprise Metro Vancouver.
“Working together, the Metro Vancouver member municipalities, electoral area, and treaty First Nation provide vital services and initiatives for our region that would not be possible without this partnership,” said Board Vice-Chair Raymond Louie. “The Board and staff are committed to providing services and solutions that continually make Metro Vancouver one of the most desired places in the world to live and do business.”
