AFOA CANADA TO HOST 1,100 WORLDWIDE INDIGENOUS BUSINESS LEADERS AT ITS INAUGURAL INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE IN VANCOUVER, BC

October 2, 2017 (Vancouver) – Today AFOA Canada kicks off its Inaugural International Conference to discuss Building Sustainable Communities by Strengthening International Networks“. The Vancouver Convention Centre will be home to over 1,100 prominent Aboriginal business and elected leaders from around the world October 2-5, 2017.

A sustainable community is the goal of meeting the needs of current and future generations through environmental, social, cultural and economic prosperity. There are many parts to fully achieving such a goal including strengthening local community governance, developing much needed human capital and balancing social and economic goals. Internationally we can learn from each other by strengthening our internal networks. We can share best practices and call upon each other to discuss new strategies that address similar issues. We can also find a way to open the economic door and further promote Indigenous trade.

“Building sustainable communities has always been a goal of AFOA Canada. When looking at how to achieve this, we saw there was still so much we could learn.  An opportunity presented itself through connecting with our sister Indigenous organizations in other countries. There is much we can learn from our affiliates around the world on sustainability practices. This Inaugural International Conference is the first step. This is an exciting time for AFOA Canada and we intend to capitalize on the different viewpoints.” states Terry Goodtrack, President and CEO of AFOA Canada.
