Appointments to the Board of Directors of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada

VANCOUVER, BC – May 28, 2015 – The Board of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada announces the appointment of Jean Charest, Blaine Favel and Paul Lee to the Board of Directors of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada).

Mr. Jean Charest’s public service career spans almost 30 years, and he is one of Canada’s best-known political figures. Mr. Charest was the Premier of Quebec from 2003 to 2012, a former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada and is currently a Partner with McCarthy Tétrault LLP in the law firm’s Business Law Group. He is based in Montreal.

Mr. Blaine Favel is Chancellor of the University of Saskatchewan and the Executive Chair of One Earth Oil and Gas. An influential Plains Cree leader who has made significant contributions to scholarship, education, and public service in Canada, Mr. Favel is a former Chief of the Poundmaker Cree Nation, past Grand Chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and a former senior diplomat with the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade. He resides in Calgary.

Mr. Paul Lee is the founder and a Managing Partner of Vanedge Capital Partners, a Vancouver-based venture capital fund focused on digital media, enterprise software and cyber security. Mr. Lee was the former President of Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA), the global leader in interactive computer and videogame software. Mr. Lee is Chair of D-Wave Systems and sits on the boards of Recon Instruments, Privacy Analytics and Pacific BioEnergy. He is based in Vancouver.

Board Chair Dr. John McArthur welcomed the new APF Canada Board appointments. “We are delighted we will be able to draw on the rich, diverse backgrounds of these high-calibre Canadians,” said Dr. McArthur. “Each of our new Members is a leader in his field and will bring fresh insight and wise counsel to our Board.”

Added APF Canada President and CEO, Stewart Beck: “I congratulate our new Members — our ability to influence public policy debates and stimulate increased and diversified trade in the Asia-Pacific region depends on our ability to attract the best and brightest to our Board.”
