BC’s overdose crisis affecting Métis communities
In light of new numbers released by the B.C. Coroner’s Service highlighting the continued increase in illicit drug overdose deaths last month, Métis Nation’s Ministry of Health wanted to share this infographic showing how this issue is affecting Métis communities around the province.
According to the report, “the number of people who died from illicit drug toxicity in October 2020 (162) represents a 116 per cent increase over the number of deaths in October 2019 (75).” This marks the eight month in a row for the province with over 100 deaths from illicit drug toxicity.
