VANCOUVER – Energy and Mines Minister Bill Bennett, Karina Briño, Mining Association of BC president and Scott Broughton, Mining Association of BC chair kick off Mining Week 2015 by recognizing the dedicated people in mining at the Mining Person of the Year reception in Vancouver.

With this award, the Mining Association of British Columbia (MABC) recognizes an outstanding individual who has shown leadership in advancing and promoting the mining industry from or within British Columbia. This year we congratulate John McManus, in recognition of his ongoing contributions to the Mining Association of BC, and for his achievements as vice-president of Taskeo Mines. McManus’ dedication, passion and guidance has had a positive impact on the industry for over 30 years.

Mining Week is an annual celebration, spearheaded by the Mining Association of BC,  which celebrates the importance of the modern industry to British Columbians. Events will be held May 3 through May 9, 2015, throughout the province in various communities that depend on mining as a large part of their economies.

Minister of Energy and Mines Bill Bennett –
“As one of B.C.’s largest and oldest industries, mining plays a huge role in the daily lives of British Columbians-helping to make B.C. the great place that it is to live, work and play. Those who work in the sector make an important contribution to the economy and to families across the province. So, this mining week we not only celebrate this vital industry, but we recognize those who have had a hand in making mining in B.C. the great industry it is today and applaud their commitment to ensuring it remains a vibrant and strong sector.”
