Good Vibes, Live Music and Public Art: Explore Downtown Victoria This Summer
Get ready for a creative summer! In addition to the colourful summer banners that were installed downtown, the City of Victoria will be celebrating the arrival of summer with new public artwork installations and pop-up live music.
“People can go outside, take a walk downtown, explore the city, all while taking the necessary safety precautions,” said Mayor Lisa Helps. “Our streets this summer will be filled with diverse, vibrant and creative art. I encourage everyone to get out and enjoy what our amazing local artists contribute to our community.”
The City’s biennial summer banner program showcases the talents of local artists and reflects the vibrancy and creativity of the city. This year for the 2021-2022 summer banner, Indigenous Artist in Resident Dylan Thomas collaborated with lessLIE and Margaret August to create four unique designs. 400 banners are on display throughout downtown Victoria. Pop-Up Live Music
This summer, keep your ears and eyes open for live local music on the streets. Bands will play ‘pop-up’ surprise concerts at different parks, plazas, streetscapes and public spaces. Be serenaded (from a distance) over lunch or as you walk and shop. To learn more, visit: victoria.ca/creativespotlight.
To celebrate local creatives and enhance everyday artistic encounters, new artwork installations have been placed in eight downtown kiosks. Artworks are rotated every three months and can be viewed along Douglas Street and in City Parkades.
