Mining Association of BC recognizes John McManus as the Mining Person of the Year
The Mining Association of BC (MABC) is pleased to announce John McManus, Vice President of Taseko Mines Limited, as the 2014 Mining Person of the Year.
Each year, MABC presents the Mining Person of the Year Award to publicly recognize an outstanding individual who has shown leadership in advancing and promoting the mining industry in British Columbia. This year, in recognition of his ongoing contributions to the Mining Association of B.C., the Association is pleased to honour John McManus.
Mr. McManus has been involved in the mining industry in British Columbia for more than 30 years and recently led the completion of the Gibraltar Mine Development Plan 3 (GDP3). The GDP3 project resulted in a substantial increase to the projected life of the Gibraltar Mine, securing employment and ongoing investment in the Williams Lake community for the future.
Mr. McManus has been a long-time advocate for the B.C. Mining industry. He is a past Chair of the Mining Association of B.C. and has been involved with the Association for more than 15 years, as a Mine Manager, member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Through those years, Mr. McManus has provided invaluable guidance, leadership and counsel to the Association, Board and Staff, informed by his breadth of knowledge and operational experience.
“I am very pleased to be celebrating John as the 2014 Mining Person of the Year”, stated Karina Briño, President and CEO of the Mining Association of B.C. “John has been instrumental in the strengthening of our Association as the voice of mining and for years has been a tireless, common-sense advocate of the industry in British Columbia”.
Hon. Bill Bennett, Minister of Energy and Mines said, “As one of B.C.’s largest and oldest industries, mining plays a huge role in the daily lives of British Columbians-helping to make B.C. the great place that it is to live, work and play. Those who work in the sector make an important contribution to the economy and to families across the province. So, this mining week we not only celebrate this vital industry, but we recognize those who have had a hand in making mining in B.C. the great industry it is today and applaud their commitment to ensuring it remains a vibrant and strong sector.”
