Reconciliation Dialogue Funding Announced
Jun 24, 2015
As part of National Aboriginal Day 2015, and on the heels of the June 2 release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 recommendations, the Province has announced $300,000 in funding for Reconciliation Canada’s (RC) Reconciliation Dialogue Workshop Series. These workshops began earlier this year as a RC initiative with support from the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres and UBCM.
In response to the announcement, UBCM President Sav Dhaliwal thanked the Province for its funding commitment. “Partnering with Reconciliation Canada to promote and sustain reconciliation dialogue will further strengthen the relationship between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people throughout British Columbia,” said Councillor Dhaliwal.
The additional funding will allow Reconciliation Canada and its partners to continue to deliver a series of high quality community dialogues that aim to educate, involve and bring together Aboriginals and non-Aboriginals to achieve lasting reconciliation. This contribution comes to RC through the Province’s Off-Reserve Aboriginal Action Plan, another initiative to which UBCM is a partner, and one that seeks to close the socio-economic gaps that exist for urban Aboriginal and Métis people.
