The intersection of the release of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission findings with British Columbia marking Child and Youth in Care Week is fitting.

As in other provinces, aboriginal children and youth comprise a disproportionate amount of the young people in government care in British Columbia. Despite comprising only 8 per cent of the province’s total child and youth population, aboriginals account for more than half of the 8,000-plus children and youth in care.
