February 16, 2023
Tahltan Nation Development Corporation (TNDC) is pleased to announce that Calvin Carlick will be joining TNDC as Director, Partnership and Business Development, beginning March 20, 2023. In this newly created leadership role, Calvin will be responsible for increasing TNDC revenues and growing business partnerships between TNDC and other organizations. In addition to managing TNDC’s existing service provider partners, Calvin will identify new market and partnership opportunities, establish a new partnership agreement and business structure, and facilitate contract opportunities for Tahltan entrepreneurs.
Calvin is a highly driven and results-focussed executive leader, with more than 15 years of experience working within First Nations organizations, including operating a non-profit government, leading band economic development initiatives, and fostering governance and strategic operations. He is passionate about achieving positive results through good governance and enhanced operational tactics and strategies. Calvin is Tahltan from the Crow Clan and Carlick family, and grew up in Iskut.
For the past seven years, Calvin has been Executive Director with Tahltan Central Government (TCG), the administrative governing body of the Tahltan Nation. Calvin previously held Economic Development Officer positions for Kitselas First Nation and Iskut Band Council.
Calvin embraces a strong commitment to corporate service. He currently serves on the Community Futures BC Board of Directors and is chair of the Community Futures 16/37 Board of Directors. Recent appointments include student representative on the Presidential Rehiring Subcommittee with Royal Roads University, chair of the Northern Business Development Society board, and 11 years on the TNDC Board of Directors, including seven years as chair.
Calvin’s professional experience is enhanced by extensive academic qualifications. He holds a Master of Business Administration – Executive Management and Bachelor of Commerce – Entrepreneurial Management, both from Royal Roads University.
“This new position is pivotal in driving TNDC’s business growth strategy and Tahltan entrepreneur engagement as well as employment strategy to grow Tahltan management within TNDC. We are excited to tap Calvin for this important leadership role, drawing upon his experience and education in business management and economic development along with his knowledge of Tahltan Territory and TNDC’s business,” said Paul Gruner, CEO of TNDC.
“Calvin’s hard work, leadership and dedication over the past several years was instrumental in the growth and success of the Tahltan Central Government (TCG). When Calvin started, we had a handful of employees and very little structure. Today the TCG has excellent governance and policies, several departments, nearly 70 staff members, and we have made history for First Nations across British Columbia many times with the new Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) legislation, protecting our lands and increasing our internal capacity. The TCG Team is going to miss Calvin and wish him the best in his new role with the Tahltan Nation Development Corporation,” said Chad Norman Day, President of the Tahltan Central Government.
