Affected Persons Liaison and Community Outreach
Salary: $62,000 – $86,000 annually
The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is an independent civilian led agency with jurisdiction to investigate incidents of death and serious harm involving BC’s police services. This includes all municipal polices services, the RCMP and South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority. The Police Act created the IIO and defines its powers. The IIO reports to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, however investigative decisions are operationally independent of the government.
This position will support the service delivery requirements of IIO Investigations and organisational mission, vision, and value. Working with the Manager, Services to Affected Persons and Community Outreach, this position will implement the various strategies to serve the diverse set of constituents who are either impacted by, or have an interest in IIO investigations. The focus of this position will be to provide services to affected persons, their families and communities.
Constituents include affected persons and their families; police agencies; media; government; community agencies; First Nations, Metis and other Aboriginal Leadership, communities; members of the public and other civilian oversight agencies in Canada and Internationally.
This position will require the incumbent to be appointed as an investigator (with Peace Officer designation), will require travel and participation in an on call rotation with one week on and one week off.
Qualifications for this role include:
- Post-secondary degree in a field related to investigative social work, health or social sciences, criminology, law, investigation and enforcement, or equivalent.
- Five years of experience in an investigative context where both the use of authority and influence were required.
- Five years of experience in providing direct client service to vulnerable populations, and those dealing with crisis, trauma and loss.
